Vision Services

How Can We Help?

As you get older you become more susceptible to a variety of eye problems, from changes in your prescription to diseases that threaten vision loss. We can help manage your age-related vision changes through routine eye exams and other vision services tailored specifically to your needs.

Cataract Surgery and IOLs

The American Academy of Ophthalmology estimates that more than 50 million Americans will have cataracts by 2050. If you are over the age of 40 and have not been screened for cataracts, we can help. I have advanced training in the detection, management and treatment of cataracts.

Cataract surgery with IOLs is a safe and effective procedure that can help save your vision. Check out our cataract pages to learn more about this common eye disease and the treatments we offer, or contact us today to schedule a cataract screening.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions associated with increased ocular pressure capable of permanently damaging the optic nerve. It is the leading cause of blindness for people over the age of 60, yet only 50 percent of glaucoma sufferers are even aware they have the condition.

We offer routine glaucoma screenings that can detect the disease in its earliest stages when it is most responsive to treatment procedures.

Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the small central portion of the retina called the macula. As the tissue of the macula deteriorates over time, if can negatively affect visual acuity, making it difficult to see things clearly. Early stage or “dry” AMD can be managed with drug and nutritional therapy. However, if untreated, AMD can progress to the more serious “wet” variant that can result in permanent vision loss.

We offer comprehensive testing for macular degeneration and years of experience in diagnosing and treating AMD vision loss.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Blurred vision, double vision, eye pain and vision loss are just a few of the symptoms associated with diabetic retinopathy. People living with diabetes are at risk of developing a number of conditions related to the metabolic disease, some more serious than others. Considering that diabetic retinopathy can cost you your sight, it’s imperative that you take steps to manage your blood glucose levels and prevent it.

We are proud to support our diabetic patients with information and treatments that best protect them from the damaging effects of diabetic retinopathy.

Eye Floaters

You may have noticed small, black or grey cobweb-like spots drifting across your field of vision from time to time. Most likely these are eye floaters, or small pieces of collagen protein that have detached from the vitreous body. Eye floaters are usually harmless. However, in rare cases they can be indicative of a serious vision problem requiring immediate medical attention.

People over the age of 40 are at increased risk of developing eye floaters as proteins in the eye begin to break down and clump together. Eye floaters may be more noticeable when you’re working on your computer or smartphone, but tend to fade over time. If they become more than a minor nuisance, or if you notice a sudden shower of floaters, there are treatment options we can recommend.
